Queenstown's "Gravel" Football Ground has been described by some as "The Most InFamous " football field in Australia. It Certainly is one that has struck fear into visiting football sides for over one hundred years. The Ground was designed this way because of the high rainfall in the area, whereas a grass field would most likely turn to mud. It is also complimented with a Concrete Bike Track around the outside, and in the center, a Concrete Cricket Pitch.
In its heyday, the ground hosted sporting carnivals, (that attracted competitors from far and wide), Local school sports carnivals, Musical Concerts, (and very early on), Trotting races Its main claim to fame however has been for Football match's, (Australian Rules Football). It was the Venue for many a fiery Western Tasmanian Football Association Grand Final. These finals also attracted The State Premier and other politicians along with the major newspaper representatives etc. The W.T.F.A was also the forerunner in attracting Victorian Football League, (Now A.F.L) Umpires to officiate in the Grand Finals. Some of the countries leading Umpires have umpired at these games. The W.T.F.A was once rated as the 4th ranked football competition in the State, and has even hosted and beaten V.F.L. sides at the ground.

The following Page contains several Photos of the Ground taken through the years. (The dates for most of the photos I am not sure of, but I am working on that)
