Shown above, are two old photo's of the Gravel Oval. (The photo Top Left), would have been taken in the mid 1900's. As you can see in this photo, there is barely a blade of grass on the surrounding hills. This is much different today, with the hills re vegetating very fast. The photo (Top Right), I believe is of one of the local School Sports Carnivals. It can be seen in the hills behind the ground, the first sign of Vegetation growing back.

The two Photo's above provide a good comparison. The one on the Left would have been taken probably in the 70's, with the one on the Right, a recent Photo. Both Photo's have been take from the same spot, (Spion Kopf Lookout).

In the two Photo's above, you can see the football ground close up. The Photo on the Left would have been taken back in the era of the Q.F.A. (Queenstown Football Association). This was the association that was later formed into the Western Tasmanian Football Association. The Photo Right is a recent Photo of the Ground as it is today. There is now only one side playing there, (The Queenstown Crows), who play in a Association based on the North West Coast. They still Play their Home games here.
